Extension is the recommended way to use Remarkerbe, as it is more powerful and has less limitation. For example, due to browser's safety policy, you can't use the bookmarklet way in HTTPS pages, while extensions have no that worry.
Remarkerbe offers bookmarklet way for other browsers(except IE). You need to drag the following button to the bookmarks bar. Please ensure your broswer's bookmarks bar is visible .
Select, press. After all export.
When you want to mark some useful content, click Remarkerbe. Every marking involves two step:
After finishing reading and marking, click "Save" to quick save content to your Evernote account. Remarkerbe will automatically choose to save the whole content or only marks according to what you marked.
If you want to determine what to save manually, click "Custom save" in the dropdown menu. Choose the view you prefer, then click "Save the current view".
* For now Remarkerbe supports Evernote only. For non-evernote users, please copy and paste it manually. We are planning to supporting other note services.
Learning from reading involves keypoint and outline. Keypoint let you focus on important things, while outline helps you grasp the main idea and logical relations . They are also the two main kinds of tools Remarkerbe offers.
Keypoint tools are used to stand out something important. They can meet basic marking needs.
These tools virtually add certain style to the content, such as bold and underline, which are common in text editor. We recommend Highlight tool for general. How to combines these tools is up to you.

Outline tools are for advanced users, who may know PKM(Personal knowledge management) or mindmap. Getting the outline or structure of an article is very useful for learning and reviewing.
For now, there are only topic tools.
Here comes one concept called Topic Analysis.
It is a method to help analyzing and evaluating a thing, similar to 5W1H or SWOT to some extent.
It first defines a topic. A topic involves many aspects , including:
What the topic is; its defination...
How it works; how to do; the steps...
Why it; reasons; things behind...
Good parts/strength/advantage of the topic.
Bad parts/weakness/disadvantage of the topic.

Topic tools implement Topic Analysis. Firstly, create a topic mark(select + press T). Then you can use other topic tools to create items which describe the topic.
The Pomodoro technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. Cancel tool is used to delete a existing mark. Just select part of the mark, and press z. The whole mark will be deleted.
Tag tool is used to add tags to you marks, for knowledge searching and organizing. This is easy to understand because it's just like tags everywhere. But it's incredibly convenient to creat tag. You'll love tags.
This tool are for foreign language learner. You can use it to mark new words, good expressions or beautiful sentences.

Standalone marks are easy to create. But when different kinds of marks mix, there are rules you need to know.
Structured marks are better than standalone marks. Because they reveal logical connections and create memory clues.
Affiliation is the way to make marks structured. Generally, a outline mark can have other marks to describe it.
Getting Things Done is a book by productivity consultant David Allen that describes the method/procedure that he created with the same title name, often referred to simply as GTD. The Getting Things Done method rests on the idea that a person needs to move tasks out of the mind by recording them externally, so the mind is free from the job of remembering the tasks that need to be completed. One can then concentrate on performing the tasks, instead of remembering.
In the above example, the whY mark describes the behind idea of "Getting Things Done" , while the highlight mark explains the idea further on. We say that ,
When there are so many marks, which mark is the one you want to describe/create a affiliation? Active mark is to indicate the master mark, which has a red tag. It is unique. You can click a mark to make it active.
This is easy to understand, as topic-* marks describe the topic.
For example, you may want to mark some words as description for a topic-how mark. Then you can create an highlight mark for it.
Usually, you needn't pay attention to this rule. Unless you are trying to creat a sub-topic mark for a topic mark, and this is not allowed.
You can click another mark to set it as active. When a topic mark is created, it will automatically be the active mark.

If your chrome/firefox could view PDF file, just click Remarkerbe as usual in the tab.
You can use Remarkerbe to create notes on local file! Just open the file with chrome/firefox, or drag it into the browser, when it is loading, click Remarkerbe and have fun.
* Chrome users need extra step:
Currently it only supports saving in the outline/mark view, which means not able to save the whole content of PDF.
Please use extension if you want PDF support in chrome. The bookmarklet way only works in firefox.
Sorry, we only support Evernote now. If you are used to other note service/software, please click "Custom save" in the dropdown menu and choose a proper view, then select-copy-paste manually.

According to Vimium doc, before you use Remarkerbe on a page, press i to enter Vimium's insert mode, where
all commands will be ignored until you hit esc to exit.Now Vimium is temporary closed on the page, you can use Remarkerbe successfully.
